Editing Services

Professional Picture (2)

My editing services are for self-published writers who have gotten their story to where it needs to be, and are ready to take it to the next level.

In other words, this is not your rough draft.

I accept stories of any size, ranging from flash fiction to epic-sized novels. Please check my list of preferred genres below before reserving my services.

I accept manuscripts by email only, as attachments, and do all my editing using Microsoft Word Track Changes, with comments in the margin. This allows you to see both the in-line edits and how your manuscript looks if you accept them all.

I ask for half the fee up-front to secure your spot in the queue and the rest before the return of the marked-up manuscript.

I currently only accept PayPal. All payments are in USD.

Please review my Terms and Conditions and FAQs before contacting me. By retaining my services, you automatically accept my conditions and are bound to them.

I specialize in:

  • Romance
  • Fantasy
  • Paranormal
  • Sci-fi
  • Thriller

I do not edit:

  • Bigotry
  • LGBT
  • Christian fiction

Line Editing

A line edit—also known as a stylistic edit—improves the flow, pacing, and overall feel of your manuscript.

Line edits may:

  • Trim words, phrases, or sentences that do not contribute to the story
  • Establish a good rhythm by rearranging passages and suggesting new ones
  • Tighten dialogue, point out inconsistencies, tonal shifts, and unnatural phrasing
  • Suggest changes to the prose when the pace is disrupted
  • Make additions that clarify or enhance your meaning
Average Timeline:    3-6 Weeks from the start date

Price:                            $0.015/word

Copy Editing

Copy editing is done when a manuscript is in its final stages. Unlike an edit, a copy edit does not alter the content of the text.

A copy editor focuses solely on spelling, punctuation, grammar, terminology, jargon, semantics, inappropriate figures of speech, consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, fonts, and capitalization, as well as the continuity of plot, setting, and character traits.

Copy edits are performed in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style, Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, and current standard practices in book publishing.

NOTE: While I will look over changes you make (and track) in response to my edits or suggestions, I will not go through the final document again in full after I address them.

I recommend you have your book proofread after copy editing as all manuscripts have typos, which get past even the most diligent of editors. To serve the best interests of the book, I also recommend using different editors and proofreaders so it can be looked at with a fresh eye.

Copy editing checks for:

  • Correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Consistency of capitalization and hyphenation
  • Correct word usage
  • Repeated or missing words
  • Formatting issues with font size, style, and layout
  • Dialogue tags and punctuating dialogue
  • Consistency of timeline and character details
  • Fix or flag confusing phrases
  • Fix or flag sentences that are repetitive or too wordy
  • Basic fact-checking
  • American vs. British English
Average Timeline:    2-4 Weeks from the start date
